TeleCard, selects Alcatel's VoIP solution to expand service

Alcatel has announced that TeleCard Limited, a facilities based competitive operator in Pakistan, has signed a multi million dollar contract for a Voice over IP (VoIP) solution from the company.

Under the terms of the contract, TeleCard will deploy the Alcatel VoIP solution in at least 12 cities in Pakistan. The company informs that it will provide a complete turnkey system, including the installation and commissioning of the Alcatel 5020 Media Gateway Controller (MGC), Alcatel 7510 and 7515 media gateways and the Alcatel Open Services Platform (OSP) which allows the customisation and rapid roll-out of high-value services including the Pre-paid Calling Card Service.

Alcatel claims that the solution will allow TeleCard to expand its service offering beyond basic local services to include long distance national and international services, with an advanced pre-paid calling card (PPC) option. The pre-paid calling card would reportedly allow subscribers to make calls from any telephone in any location, without using coins or special card reading equipment.
